Out here in the U.S. Midwest, Labor Day weekend was a scorcher. Again today, it’s 95(f) degrees (35c) and will be again tomorrow. We’re supposed to get a cool-off on Thursday, and it can’t come soon enough for me.
We’ve had very little rain all summer. Unfortunately, I think it’s causing some leaves to turn color already, which means fall foliage might not be a full bloom this year. Bummer. It’s my favorite season.
We’ve had to do a lot of watering of the veggies garden (my husband does this garden).
Not to mention my flowers and plants (I do this garden). Check out my begonias, hostas, roses, and herbs. 👇
Because of the heat over the weekend, we didn’t schedule outdoor activity for our holiday. Instead, we spent much of the time on a project indoors . . . cooking!
Turning on the oven isn’t the best idea on hot days, but thank God for air conditioning.
We really needed to do something with all these tomatoes from our garden.
We had a second bowl filled with the same amount.
My husband and I have an assembly line going when we make tomato (pasta) sauce from scratch with these. I boil the tomatoes and peel the skins. He blends them and gets out the seeds. I pour the liquid into sizzling garlic and basil and stew it down.
We put Italian sausage in some of the sauce and made some half-rigotonis or rigotinis.
Because we had so much sauce, we also made pizza from scratch, which was why we turned on the oven.
We had bought a bunch of fresh apples at the farmer’s market and baked Apple Slices.
Okay, time for my diet.
Hope you had a nice weekend. Did you do anything more exciting than cooking?
I don’t do heat very well either, lol.
On a side note, I’ve heard those air fryer ovens are awesome for hot days, to keep from turning that oven on in the first place. Supposed to get cooler this week, thank the Lord! I am so over the heat! lol

We do have a Ninja Air Fryer that also bakes and grills, but it’s very small. Wouldn’t have been able to bake the Apple Slices in there. Yes, it’s going to cool down this weekend. Autumn is my favorite time of year. Enjoy. 🍂🍁

Yeah, it was a hot Labor Day this year. I’m liking this cool down, but it’s a little sticky.

Too bad you’re on the other side of the world, otherwise I’d have you over for some pasta. 🙂

35 at this time of year is brutal. But your cooking looks divine! Your garden did well, it seems. Homemade pasta sauce is so good. Cheers.

Hi Lynette. Yes, my husband is good at gardening. The flowers on the side of the house are the ones I told you about. The side of the garage where I want to plant something is in front of the wood fence. Maybe some time if you travel in your retirement, you can stop here and have my pasta sauce with some wine. 🙂

My vote is still for the mophead hydrangeas for that spot. 🙂
Thank you for the invitation! I would totally love to stop by to taste your sauce and have a glass of wine. Cheers. 🍷

Except for the heat, this all looks great! I like that you use your own tomatoes for the sauce.

Hi Anneli. Yeah, we don’t have the stamina for canning, so we turn the tomatoes into sauce. It’s still a bit of a process, but not as much as canning. Thanks for checking it out. Hope all is well with you.

We are two hours east of you so don’t hog all the cool weather as it moves east.
