Truth About You

When you contact the truth about you, you recognize that a great deal that you have come to accept about you is false. You are not better or worse than others. You are not stupid or brilliant, or handsome, or ugly. Those are just judgments someone made that you accepted. None of them are true.
~ Paul Ferrini, I am the Door

Many times other peoples’ behavior toward us can give us the wrong impression of who we are. It begins from birth. Parents start to see certain signs of a personality in a baby and assign the child an attribute. Some parents may even tell a child what that attribute is (and other quirks they notice) as s/he grows. For example, stubborn, smart, sensitive, shy, outgoing, etc.

It Happened at the Beauty Salon

Mara climbed out of her car and blinked up at the powder blue sky. A gorgeous September day. She almost wished she didn’t have to go into the salon to get her hair done.

She shrugged; at least she enjoyed the company of the people there. The old fashioned, independent boutique had their regulars, and everyone knew each other. Even the door clanged with a bell when she entered.

“Hi, Mara.” Her stylist waved as she swept up her station. “I’ll be right with you.”

“No problem.” Mara stood near the checkout counter where a gray-haired woman was paying for services. She looked familiar from behind, and then when she spoke, Mara recognized her cousin. “Hello, Gloria. How are you?”

Gloria pivoted slowly, a scowl on her face, eyes squinted, and then she turned right back around toward the cashier without a word.

“Gloria? What’s the matter?” Deep down Mara knew. She didn’t mean to hurt her cousin’s feelings. She had apologized profusely, and Gloria said she accepted her apology. “You’re not going to talk to me anymore?”

With her back to Mara, Gloria spat, “No, I’m not.” She finished paying the cashier and stamped out the door.

An Inappropriate Analogy

It’s been a while since I shared an introspective post, so here’s a “thinker” demonstrated in an analogy.

Oh boy, better get comfortable.

Imagine if every day at work you have to sit next to someone who has really bad body odor. The odor is nauseating. You put an air freshener at your station, but then it smells like a cow died in a flower garden. You don’t know what to do. You contemplate different ideas. Should I tactfully bring it up? Should I talk to the boss to see if there is anything that can be done? Continue reading “An Inappropriate Analogy”

I Have an Honesty Problem

No, it’s not what you think. I’m not a liar. It’s just that I thought honesty meant virtue. I’ve recently realized that I’m too honest, because telling the truth isn’t always flattering or pretty.

Got Truth?

cherub 1 wmI miss the truth … the very good, the bad and the ugly of it.

Where did truth go? Is it hiding beneath the dirt, buried by those who fear it? If so, how do I dig it out? If I find where it’s buried, will the forces-that-be do something to stop me before I can expose the lie? Will they tarnish the messenger so that no one will believe the message? Does that mean I should fear telling the truth because of what liars might do or say about me?

Relative…it’s what I’m told that truth is. Perhaps it’s relative in accordance to what we believe. I would argue that if we look to simplicity, there is no relevance.

Be prepared, as I am going to describe from my perspective (in brief) the good, the bad and the ugly of truth.

Random Thoughts

Is the reflection telling us the truth about how we look?
(For use of photo, please attribute to Lori and this blog.)

I always tell the truth. Even when I lie.
~ Al Pacino as Tony Montana in Scarface.

~ Some people will believe anything.
~ Some people hear what they want to hear and not necessarily what’s really being said.
~ Sometimes when people accuse someone else of something, they are projecting their own flaws.
~ Sometimes people purposely accuse someone of a crime that they themselves have committed in order to get the focus off of them. Continue reading “Random Thoughts”
