Not Your Average Good News, Bad News Story
I’ve often heard people ask why news programs only share the terrible problems of the world. Even in years long ago when we only had nightly news at six and ten, they reported bad events happening locally and internationally.

Guess Who Said It

“People get confused when they hear something they agree with from someone they dislike. Likewise, people are often blind to bad ideas when they come from someone they admire.“
Can you guess who said the above quote? Do you like the quote? Do you agree with the quote? As the words in the quote reference, do you need to know who said it before you decide to like it or not? Would it matter?
Opposites Attract
While chatting in the comment section with friends about my Looking Inside post, another subject crept it’s way into the conversation.
Things I Learned from my Refrigerator
- Don’t buy appliances from a company that is known to be struggling.
- Don’t buy General Electric.
- It’s good to buy an extended warranty on appliances (if it’s from a company that’s not struggling).
- It’s good to have a spare refrigerator, even if it’s small.
- Things will go wrong at the most inopportune time, like a broken refrigerator when I’m expecting lots of guests.
- When something unexpected puts a kink in plans, I don’t handle it very well. My mind whirls in confusion, and I need someone to help me take the situation in bite sized pieces.
- I shouldn’t berate myself for number six on this list.
- I’m the only one I know that would offer my refrigerator as temporary storage if someone told me theirs had broken down.
My dad told me stories about how his dad worked at an ice company in the 1940’s, where he delivered blocks of ice for ice boxes in homes. In other words, old-time refrigerators. This makes me grateful for modern refrigerators, especially since I didn’t have one for three weeks.
- Even after a problematic situation is taken care of, like finally getting the refrigerator fixed, something else may go wrong.
- Don’t panic if I get a sore throat. It’ll pass.
- When I get a nasty cold, take care of myself with lots of vitamins, rest and chicken soup.
- Don’t worry about what needs to get done. Remain optimistic that the cold will be a brief setback. Like the refrigerator debacle, this too shall pass.
- Despite these minor inconveniences, I’m extremely grateful for the blessings in my life. It’s good to be home.
A World of Rejects?
We hear lots of recklessly assigned labels in our society these days. You know, homophobe, misogynist, xenophobe, racist, fascist, etc. These words are used to say that someone hates a particular group of people.
So, what kind of a “ist” or phobe is someone who hates ALL people?

Griping or Grateful?
Every year as January 1st draws near, I hear some people say, “I can’t wait to start the new year. Thank God this one is almost over.”

Sticks and Stones
Our ultimate freedom is the right and power to decide how anybody or anything outside ourselves affect us. ~ Stephen R. Covey
“Sticks and Stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me.” was something I mentioned in a post I wrote over a year ago. A few people had contacted me afterward, about how horrible that saying is, and that it shouldn’t be said anymore.
Recently, I saw a lecture online discussing that very phrase and saying it was a good thing. As usual, this got me to analyzing. Since my blog is mostly about introspection, let’s examine this from both sides.

Time
Time is something I feel I have very little of these days. I’m in the process of a lot of stuff happening in my life. For the next week, it’ll be difficult to get to anyone’s blogs.
This is also going to be a busy summer. I may be in and out throughout the coming weeks. Maybe I’ll be able to share what’s going on when things settle down.
Hope you enjoy the timely saying about time, below.
Hopespring
I’d completely forgotten that hopeful feeling that comes with spring.
