Out of many, One

I don’t usually post two days in a row, but I feel the need to today.

It’s been a tense year for our country. The vitriol, division and violence portrayed everywhere. It seems as if evil is taking over the entire world … and many believe that evil is “the other side who doesn’t agree.”

But, among the mucky weeds of strife, there was one beacon of light during the first week in November.

Juice and the Underdog

sombrero wmIt seems to me, underdog movies do quite well at the box office, especially in sports. Just a few examples of many are, The Rookie, Rocky, Rudy & Seabiscuit. (Apparently, many of them start with the letter R, too.) One of my personal favorite underdog stories has nothing to do with sports called, Gattaca.

This Time of Year

This is the time of year I start to get nostalgic, and sometimes melancholy.

Where I grew up in the Midwest, my family and I spent Sundays watching football. We were die-hard fans, even when our team was losing and the games were blacked out. We listened to them on the radio when that happened. Younger Bears fans probably couldn’t imagine Soldier Field not selling out and subsequent blackouts. Continue reading “This Time of Year”

A Baseball Birthday

Come join us for my husband’s 50th birthday surprise … a weekend of baseball at the bay. The Rays opening weekend at Tropicana Field against the Yankees.

First, we checked in at a historical hotel built in 1925. Formerly the Pennsylvania, it is now a Courtyard by Marriott.

Man of the Year Award

Can’t help it, I get choked up when I see old films of him … the man I wrote about in the story titled In the Bears Den with Dad. They gave out the award named after him before the big game started. Check out my chance encounter with him.  Rome Home and Meatball

So, what did you think of the game? I’m not a fan of either team, so I had no preference. If I knew how to do polls, I’d put one up, but it’s amazing I even figured out how to put together this blog.

How bout the commercials? Any particular one grab your attention?

My thoughts on the game … preferred to see Eli win because he’s always living in some other QB’s shadow. This time the light’s on him. Sorry Patriots fan. My team didn’t even make it there so at least you had the joy of making it there (many times).

Not one single commercial made me laugh, nor were they memorable because I don’t even remember them now.

Until next year …

Which topic today? How about a birthday?

Greetings!

Over the weekend I originally planned to put up videos of my dogs. Unfortunately, I learned that this blog does not offer me the option of putting those up unless I upgrade. Sad to say, I’m not in a position to do so at this point. 😦 I don’t have a youtube account either, and don’t plan on opening one any time soon. But, as I said in my memoir, who knows what the future holds.

So, now I’m trying to figure out which topic I’d like to discuss first? Continue reading “Which topic today? How about a birthday?”
