life, thoughts

Half full

I originally wanted to start by writing that the summer is half over, but instead I decided it’s still half full. Right?

I hope everyone else is enjoying their summer. So far, mine has been quite busy. I cherish all the social events, because I felt like a hermit when I lived in Florida. I haven’t been posting as much, and struggling to get to your blogs.

Let me share with you when it all started back in spring. The photo below shows what happened in our back yard, in May.

We had our rusty-nailed, worn out wooden deck knocked down and replaced with what you see below.

The builders left a little soil along the house for floral landscaping. We didn’t ask for them to do it that way, but they suggested it would look better. Yeah, right. Like I know how to do anything regarding plants. But, I thought I’d give it a try.

I was very excited about how nice it looked that first day, because I had no idea what I was doing. Since I planted it about 5 weeks ago, the daisies aren’t doing so good, but check out my rose bush below!!

The geraniums and begonias (first photo) are doing great, too!

From there, we needed patio furniture. I had a picture in my mind of what I wanted, but I couldn’t find it anywhere in any stores . . . except for Amazon. I didn’t want to order something without seeing it in person first, but a particular table I liked was nowhere else but online. So, I took a chance and ordered it.

Yep, this was how the box was delivered (above). Check out below what we found when we opened it.

Long story short, the broken tiles were in the box, so my husband grouted them back into the table and fixed it. I wrote a review about the issue on Amazon. They removed my review but gave me a discount on the table. I’m in the process of trying to get them to put my review back up.

Sorry the photos aren’t so good. I just took any I could find in my devices.

The below photo is what the patio looks like all filled up with furniture, plus an awning and umbrella to help shade us from the blinding, middle-of-the-day hot sun.

The table and two chairs (chairs bought at Menards) is what I had envisioned. Plus, the table top comes off and becomes a firepit!

After this was accomplished, we took a brief getaway, which wasn’t long enough. We haven’t been able to take a longer vacation due to busyness, and also our dog, Max. He’s aging and it’s getting more difficult for him to get around. We won’t leave him, so he goes with us.

Then, along came Independence Day. Went to see fireworks display with my bff from childhood at the high school where we graduated.

In the meantime, I’ve been cleaning and cooking fresh veggies from my husband’s garden.

And, we had a four-legged visitor while my brother and family went on vacation.

The above photo is a screen shot from a video, that’s why it’s blurred. Max (right) is eleven years old and couldn’t keep up with one-year-old Nessa. We all had a good time visiting.

We’ve also been enjoying outdoor concerts with friends for our favorite ’80’s and ’90’s music. We have another this weekend (Sister Hazel).

Did I mention that I had the pleasure of meeting a good blogger friend in person? We had a wonderful lunch getting to know each other.

Oh, and I’ve been on yet another nutritional diet. This one is supposed to bring my alkaline into better alignment. My chiropractor thinks it can help with inflammation and my chronic pain.

I wish I had time to write down the philosophical ideas I’ve had for posts, and for my writing, but the busy schedule is a welcome change. It was much lonelier in Florida when my schedule was empty.

So, what have you been up to this summer?

  1. What a gorgeous back patio you and your guy have created! I love it. Yes, I’d spend a lot of time out there too. Perhaps Max enjoys the relaxation instead of the walking anyway. ๐Ÿ™‚ He certainly looks like he enjoyed Nessa’s visit. Every year I also “experiment” with what flowers to grow in the yard. It’s kind of fun to watch. Yours look so beautiful. Enjoy the rest of the summer!

    1. Hi Pam (do you prefer Pam or Pamela?). Thank you for your kind comment. Other than those roses, I do think I’ll try some new flowers next year.

Hope you’re having a wonderful summer.

      1. Our summer is flower-full and full of walks and hikes and (even better) ice cream! ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m Pam, Pamela, and Pammy; Madre to one set of grandkids; and “Grammy Pammy” to another set. I answer to all. ๐Ÿ™‚ Happy August!

  2. Your patio looks so beautiful. But I’m sure sorry about that patio table. It’s ridiculous that they took down the review since that was the state it was in when it arrived. ๐Ÿ˜ก

    1. I’m so aggravated that they haven’t put the review back up. I’ve complained a half dozen times now, and no response.

Thanks for checking out my patio. We’re spending too much time out there and not enough time walking the dog.

  3. It’s good that life has stopped you blogging as much in a good way Lori ๐Ÿ™‚ Your yard looks very smart and it sounds as though your summer has been a full one so far. I hope you enjoy the rest of it.

  4. Sorry to hear about how your patio table arrived. Hope your review gets put back up. If that happened to me, I would ask for a refund but I guess with online buying that’s not always possible (and buying something that big shipping it back would be hard).

Here in Australia it is winter. Very jealous of your warm summer. Hopefully winter will be over for us soon. Enjoy the rest of your summer, Lori ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. I forget it’s winter on the other side of the world, Mabel. Thank you for your kind words about my table. I actually love it since my husband fixed it. I’m feeling blessed with my busy summer.

  5. Good work with the patio and the veggie garden. I was also thinking that summer will start winding down soon, but I will take a leaf from you and say “the summer glass is half full”. ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. I like how you think! Itโ€™s been such a crazy summer here with Italian weddings and now medical issues with my mom. Havenโ€™t been able to really focus on summer, but youโ€™ve given me some incentive.

    1. Hi Joy. We’re enjoying the patio. Good to know about the heavier items (and this was super heavy). I’m going to have to keep that in mind when shopping there. Hope you didn’t find anything badly broken. Thank you for the nice comment.

  7. Wow! A busy summer indeed for you, Lori! ๐Ÿ˜€ The patio looks terrific and I love the table and how clever to convert to a fire-pit.The plants will do well, the rose looks amazing and itโ€™s just a matter of time to find what suits the area best. Glad youโ€™re having good breaks with friends and music! Enjoy the rest of this wonderful season! Xx

    1. Hi Annika. I’m so glad you noticed that table/firpit. I seem to be the only one that thinks it’s just the coolest thing. I wanted that table so bad, and wasn’t giving it up even when it came broken.

Thanks so much for your encouragement. Hope you’re enjoying your summer.

    1. We really do love our patio, but we’re spending way too much time out there instead of walking the dog and/or exercising. ๐Ÿ˜œ

I wish you could’ve joined us at our lunch, Jill. Hope your enjoying your summer.

    1. Good idea, Kate. I’ll plant more of what worked. I really want to add tulips. I have no idea how, but I’ve read that the bulbs need to be planted in fall, so I’ll give it a try.
Thanks, Kate. Hope you’re enjoying your summer.

  8. I have been insanely busy with work and now have just completed 10 days of training. I am tired and my brain is buzzed. But, I am now starting five weeks of holidays at my home in the Okanagan Valley of BC. R and R. ๐Ÿ™‚ I have some work with me but I can do it on my own schedule. I’m looking forward to the beach. ๐Ÿ™‚

I love your yard and patio. Beautiful. Btw, I know that daisies can take a while to get established.

    1. Oh boy, sounds like you need that 5 weeks R&R. Enjoy.

Thanks for the nice words on the patio. I think we love it a little too much, because we spend our evenings lazing on the patio instead of walking the dog. ๐Ÿ˜œ

Thanks for the tip on the daisies, too.
