Disappearing Bloggers

I’ve noticed lots of people dropping off from blogging lately. Not posting or visiting. During the month of August, my blog has dropped in traffic immensely. Maybe people are out there and active enjoying their last summer month. Maybe they’ve stopped blogging altogether.

I think about friends who stopped blogging over the years and wonder how they are doing. A couple I keep in contact with through other social media, but most of them I have no idea where they went or how they’re doing. Some say a polite goodbye to their blog followers, and others disappear with nary a word. Yes, I said “nary.” Does anyone use that word anymore?

It sort of makes me sad that I don’t get to have contact with some of those I felt a connection with, but I understand life takes us in different directions sometimes. There are certain people online and in real life that are only meant to be in our lives for a short time, and perhaps for a specific purpose we aren’t aware of at the moment.

I do enjoy blogging. I find it much more friendly than any other social media. When life gets busy, I need to step away for a short time, but I can’t imagine not returning, not unless something huge happened that took up my time.

Having said that, the next few weeks are going to be busy, so I may not be around as much. I’ll read blogs when I can, and might post in between if I have time. I hope you’ll all stick around. I do enjoy your company.

Good friends are like stars. You don’t always see them, but you know they are always there. ~ unknown

  1. Lori, I saw this whilst away in Sweden for the summer and immediately felt a bit guilty! πŸ˜€ It is sad when some bloggers suddenly disappear and does leave one wondering what has happened. Personally other commitments mean I will not be as active here on WP as much as before but I’ll be popping in and out! As for β€˜nary’ that’s a fabulous word and not one I use but ensure I will do from now on!

  2. Hi Lori… As someone who appears and disappears quite often in the blogging and social media world, I have thought about this issue a lot. Not that I have any answers! My son says that blogging has mostly disappeared as a popular activity in the past couple of years. He says the new thing is to upload YouTube videos. Lol.

  3. It is a shame that some people disappear from blogging, especially those you feel a connection to. I’ve noticed over the years I’ve been blogging that it’s often quieter over the summer with people taking breaks and hopefully coming back in the autumn.

    1. Hi Andrea. Yes, blogging does seem to slow down in the summer. I noticed that after the first of the year it gets busier with people making resolutions to post more and then eventually dropping off.

Glad you’re still around, Andrea. πŸ™‚

    1. Hi George. I do notice when people disappear, and funny thing, I do miss them even though I never met them in person. Thanks so much for reading. Hope you’re having a nice summer.

  4. I am here, however, sometimes I forget to comment. I do not blog as much. My caregiving task took up all my time. I am going home after Labor Day unless something unforeseen happens.

I have my few faithful followers whom I love: you, Bonnie, Anneli, Kathy….that is about it but quality means so much more than quantity to me.

Be well. I wish you enough.

  5. I’ve notice that too. There is an older woman in her 80s that I followed for a few years. She is a great writer. She signed off because she was going on a 3 week trip in the spring but I never saw her post again. I hope it’s because she needs the break or something good happened rather than something bad.

    1. I could see why you’d be wondering about her. I hope all is well with her, too.

I guess I’m not the only one noticing the blogging drop off. I do enjoy this venue, so I hope everyone returns after summer vacation.

      1. This is weird but after I commented, the woman posted. As it turned out she’s been through a series of really bad health issues for the past year but is on the mend. Sometimes we don’t know what happened and can only hope.

  6. I’ve noticed comments on other blogs saying that traffic has dropped off. And I’ve noticed declining traffic as well. Yes, people do leave suddenly. I understand about having to reduce your time here for a while – I may have to do the same. I just took on a new job suddenly (my boss passed away), so lots going on. I use the word “nary.” πŸ™‚
