Healing Hearts Day

pepper heart wmThey say it’s usually people who are alone that disparage Valentine’s Day, but I know better. So, I’m just going to say it, I don’t like Valentine’s Day, and this is coming from someone who has had a love in my life for 30 plus years. After writing about this holiday in the past and receiving many comments over the years, I can attest that I’m not the only one. Many people do not like this holiday.

Here are a couple of quotes that explains it pretty well for me.

If every lover was treated like they matter every day, Valentine’s Day wouldn’t be so special. ~ Unknown

You should always show the one you love that you love them, there’s no need for a day for it. ~ Unknown

So instead, I think it’s a good idea to use this day to purposely say kind and loving things to one another. I propose we go into social media wherever we have our accounts, and say something nice to the people that post opposite ideological opinions than our own. Without bringing up our differences, tell these people we care about them. Find something nice about their character and say it. Instead of Valentine’s Day, I think we should replace it with, Healing Hearts Day. I am doing it, and I hope you will, too.

If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other. ~ Mother Teresa

For peace is not mere absence of war, but is a virtue that springs from . . . character… ~ Baruch Spinoza

We look forward to the time when the Power of Love will replace the Love of Power. Then will our world know the blessings of peace. ~ William Ewart Gladstone

To my frequent commenters, Anneli, Jill, Andrea, Margarita, and Lorna, I’m grateful to know you through this blogging world. To all those who read and don’t comment, my heartfelt gratitude for actually being interested in what I’ve written. May all of you have happiness and good health fill all the days of your lives.

May humanity find true Love, having compassion for one another despite ideological differences.

  1. Oh wow, do you see the extra meaning in your heart-pepper pix? It says to me: the char brings out the best in its flavor…I know I’m kinda abstract, but the visual is more about real love than candy hearts…
    just sayin’….
    Happy Healing Hearts Day!
    Take care
    peace always

  2. I think so too! I love this. Being single myself, I do not like it, but I am going to a Valentines party with my bible study. I am loving the Lord, myself, and all others. Knowing others in solid relationships, they do not like it either. Thank you for this!

    1. Instead of these holidays where we are supposed to love and honor one person, spouse, mother, father, why not a holiday where we all honor each other … a day where we all give out a single flower and/or hugs to those we come across during our day? Some people aren’t parents and don’t have parents on Mother’s Day or Father’s Day. One of which is my husband. Anyway, Happy Healing Hearts Day, Avery. Glad to know you’re loving yourself and the Lord. Enjoy your evening at the party. Much love and many blessings.

      1. Yes, I so agree! To truly love is to treat that person you love special every day. Not just on the one day. Thank you so much, Lori, I will. You and your husband enjoy!

  3. I guess I’m sitting on both sides of the fence on this one.I agree with everything you’ve said. People should be kind, caring, and loving every day, but sometimes we get so bogged down in daily life and the weight of our responsibilities gets us down.
We may forget that we are surrounded by loving people and that we do love them too. Valentine’s Day is a reminder that we should be making more of an effort to show that we care, every day. EVERY DAY. I don’t need give or receive flowers and cards. A hug will do.
