If you are ashamed to stand by your colors, you had better seek another flag. ~Author Unknown
Does it still exist … American culture … American Patriotism?
Is it disrespectful to have an American culture and to take pride in it? Does it mean we hate other cultures if we are proud of our own?
Of course not.
Since it’s okay to celebrate independence on Cinco de Mayo, shouldn’t it be okay to celebrate American independence?
Of course.
This year for the Fourth of July, I’m a little sad that American culture looks as if it’s dissolving. It seems at every turn in media and from leadership, we’re belittled and demeaned as a people. We’re told we are a country of haters. Told we should be ashamed.
So, this Independence Day, I hope that Americans feel free to take pride in their country … to celebrate its culture and heritage. Let’s put the “united” back in United States of America and not allow media or leadership to divide us because of our uniqueness. Different perspectives are what built this country. Be confident in our hard-earned freedom and culture.
Fly that star spangled banner with pride.
Get out those lawn chairs and celebrate with neighbors, friends and family.
Hold a mini-flag in one hand, a sparkler in the other.
Barbecue hot dogs (preferably Chicago-style Vienna).
Play baseball in the street with the neighbor kids.
Drink Kool-Aid.
Climb a tree.
Marvel at fireworks while singing the national anthem, right hand on the chest, head held high.
God Bless America.
