It’s a Bug’s World

I got to smell my favorite flowers for the first time in twenty-seven years. Lilacs. We moved back north just in time for the colorful spring.

We are still unpacking after our one way trip out of Florida to Illinois. The weather has been near perfect (for me) since we arrived. Oh sure, we’ve had some days of rain, but when the sun comes back out, there is no steam rising from the streets afterward, like back in Florida. The temperature goes from 85 to 55 and back again from day to day, and I’m grateful I’m not dealing with relentless, humid 90’s.

I heard about the harsh winters they’ve had here for the past couple of years. You’d think that with such a frozen tundra, there would be less bugs in spring, but nope. It’s as bad as the infestations in Florida. Weren’t these hideous, tiny creatures killed from the frigid winter? We find them in the house and swarming us on our evening walks with the dog. Why can’t I escape them?

We’ve been driving with the car windows open (when it isn’t raining, of course). One day as we drove around town with the pleasant breeze in my hair, something dropped into the car and landed on my shoulder. Since I was behind the wheel, I didn’t look, but I figured it was a leaf and brushed it off. A couple minutes later, something tickled my chest.

Eeek! A CrEePy-CrAwLy! 

I pulled to the side of the road in front of someone’s home. I wriggled and writhed around. The creepy-crawly flung onto my purse. I thrust open the door and threw my bag to the ground beside the car. The fat bodied spider-like, speckled insect hopped off onto the pavement and scurried away. Ack!

Sometimes I think bugs are going to take over the world.

Aside from the insects, we’ve had both ups and downs throughout this cross-country move. After 27 years in one home, I’m finding myself in a physical and mental adjustment period.

As my first beloved dog taught me, it’s all about the journey.

Mom was gracious enough to put up with us for three weeks at her house (thank you Mom), until we found a townhouse to rent. Now, we can take our time to find a permanent place to buy.

The unpacking seems endless, and I can’t find where I put anything. I’ll be blogging and reading blogs intermittently. I can’t wait to share the latest notorious happening from my old neighborhood.
