Even though my husband, Gary, was back on his feet after his injury, we learned that his heels were still shattered. The doctor said light to moderate walking was necessary to prevent calcium build-up. Ouch! Stepping on shattered heels sounds like torture to me, but Gary said it wasn’t so bad, at least compared to his earlier pain.
Normally, Gary’s job requires ten-hour days or more on his feet. The doctor eased him back into work with only two half-days each week. With every re-check of his healing progression, the doctor added a couple more hours, until right around Thanksgiving 2014, he was released to work full time.
Unfortunately, with such a serious injury, Gary was unable to escape lasting effects. About 6 weeks ago (or so), he lugged himself out of bed to go to work and could barely stand up. It wasn’t his feet this time, but his back. He went to work anyway, in severe pain with his body lopsided.
Concerned that this could be related to his accident, we got in to see the doctor (which was another bit of drama, because they refused to give him an appointment for his back. We finally got it straightened out).
X-rays were taken, and his spine looked okay. He also had an MRI, and as of this post, we’re waiting for those results.
The good news is, Gary’s heels have fused back together. The bad news is, his walking gate is forever changed and is likely effecting his back.
Long hours being upright not only aggravates his back, but his feet ache to the core by the end of each ten-hour day. A few hours on his feet is okay, but not ten, or even eight. This was not a problem for him before the accident. So, we both agreed, it was time he find a job with less hours using those sore old dogs.
We kept this decision under wraps, not wanting anyone to know until a viable job opportunity arrived. But, before we even had a chance to update his resume, Gary received a phone call from a long-time colleague. This colleague asked if Gary would be interested in a job where he would be evaluating shop performances from a computer. The timing was perfect!
Gary applied for the job and was hired. But, that’s not all…
For those of you who have read my blog for some time now, you know I’ve wanted to move out of Florida. This new job will take us out of state. Guess where we’re moving? Back to Chicago where I grew up.
Not only does this opportunity work for Gary’s health, but it also brings me back home. The universe synced it perfectly and brought me full circle. The phone call for the job opportunity would’ve come, regardless of the accident. But, it happened exactly when it was needed.
Never doubt that there is a Force working to give you what you need. It might take a couple dozen years, but it will happen.
You mid-westerners, be on the lookout for me this summer. Just think of the moving stories I’ll be able to share.
If you’d like to read about this story from the beginning, it starts with a Tale About Feet.
Have you ever had perfect timing with something that just fell into your lap unexpectedly?
Oh, Lori, how wonderful! Source does, indeed, know our needs and meets them at the perfect time. What a fabulous demonstration and reminder! xoxoM

Hi Margarita. Yep, Source sure does come through for us, but while we’re waiting, sometimes it’s hard to keep the faith. Thank you for the nice comment.

This gives me some chills to read: how amazing the timing worked out so well and in your hometown to boot! Though I’m so sorry to hear your husband is suffering new problems from the accident, I’m happy to hear you’ve found such a good-fitting solution. Good luck with all the moving prep. I know there’s a lot of work involved. Take care of yourselves in the process!

I love it when moments just sort of fall in your lap, and while you don’t quite expect it, they always have a way of working out a problem you are facing or are about to face.
I enjoy this blog immensely, and would like to share it. Read on and look around for more great posts!

Thank you, Kathy. The stress of the move is hard, but I’m looking forward to getting settled. I can’t help but feel the universe came together in perfect timing for us.

WOW! What a great story. I do hope you will be happy when you get back home. Too often I have heard you cannot go home again! I believe that the Universe worked this all out for you; you and Gary have had your share of trouble. If your route brings you through AL, Huntsville, will have a room ready for you.
Hugs and Joy!

Hi Linda. Home will definitely not be the same since I left. First of all, my grandparents were all alive up there when I left. We were a much closer family back then, too, And, I had many friends I left behind, of which, only two of them have remained in touch all these years (I’ve blogged about them before). My mom is not well either, so yes, things will be different. The way the universe came together for this move, it just feels like the timing is perfect. My biggest concern is the stress of a move.
Thanks so much for coming over to read about it.

I am so glad this job opportunity came up for your husband. It sounds like where you both need to be now. And Chicago is very close to WI where I go on book tours for Six Train so we may meet up sometime! 🙂

OMG, that would be so cool to meet up. My dad has a place in Wisconsin. I’ll keep posted to your travel dates. I just can’t wait to get settled. I’m already stressing about the move and haven’t even started packing yet. 😛

I’ve never been to Chicago, but I hope to go one day just for the pizza. 🙂 lol. It will definitely be a change from Florida, but hopefully, you still have friends and family there? I just love when things just happen with perfect timing. It’s good to hear he’s going to have an easier job for his back and heals.

Hi Angela. Yes, all of my family is still there and so are my two best friends. It’ll definitely take some getting used to the weather again. We’re hoping that by going in the summer, we can ease into the change as it gets colder. You can come and visit me once I get settled. I know the best places for deep dish pizza. 🙂

I just might take you up on that if/when we visit. Pizza is my weakness in life, and perhaps, my favorite food out of everything. lol.

Bring your appetite. That deep dish pizza can fill you up on one slice. My favorite food (weakness) in the whole wide world is chocolate. Thank God I’m not moving near Hershey, PA. Heh.

I can’t imagine the constant pain Gary is in. Even at a desk job, his back will probably be an issue. I wish him well. As for your move back “home,” YIPPEE! I love the Universe. It is so generous, giving you just what you need (even when it feels as if not much has been going your way).
I have so many stories of synchronicity that I couldn’t possibly tell them all here. Just know this, when I REALLY needed something, it was provided. Sure, I had struggles of monumental proportions, but so many other things just fell into place like miracles. A lot of them are in my memoir…

Hi Lorna. Yes, he will have issues for the rest of his life, but getting him off his feet is the best we can ask for. On the days he has meetings and is off his feet (at present job), he has much more energy and less pain at the end of the day. So, hopefully this is the change he needs. Gosh, I’ll have to remember to read your memoir when I get the chance. I love stories that show how things sync just when it’s needed. Thanks so much for your support.

This is such a happy ending to such a difficult stretch of circumstances. (I mean as happy as possible, considering Gary will forever be a bit limited by that accident.) And I’m thrilled that you get to move away from all that heat and humidity and back home again!

Thank you, Terri. Yeah, it’s not the best case scenario, because Gary will struggle with this for the rest of this life. But, it’s great that the best thing for the circumstances we’re in has surfaced. Once we get settled in our new home (we aren’t moving for a few months), be on the lookout for me. 😉

I got to the end of the post and my mind was saying omigod omigod before I realised what I was excited about. You must be beyond happy. I’m so pleased for you.
I never doubt the Universe is listening and doing it sbest. Sometimes the timing and delivery may be different from what I anticipated but it’s happened many times, out of the blue or it all worked out in the end.

Hi EllaDee. My problem is, that I DO doubt the universe is working to help me out. This was a great reminder for me not to worry so much and trust the right outcome is on its way. Thank you so much for being happy with us.

And yet there are hordes of people who book holidays to Florida (praying they don’t run into the snakes and spiders, I’m sure).

Congrats on both accounts! Both of you certainly deserved some good news after what you’ve been through, it’s lovely when the universe recognizes that.

Yay – Chicago!!!! (Grew up in Hyde Park) It is true, things do have a way of working themselves out. But sometimes when you are in the midst of it all, it is hard to believe they will.

It was difficult to believe we would even make it through that difficult time. But, we did. So, do you still live in the Chicago area? I grew up on the NW burbs, and that’s where the job popped up for him as well. Thanks for reading SP.
