The Prince

You know when you have found your prince because you not only have a smile on your face but in your heart as well. ~Author Unknown

Last year at this time, I blogged about a young prince and a maiden who met, fell in love and got married twenty-seven years ago.

On June 1st they are married for twenty-eight years.

This young prince isn’t much of a romantic, but he sure is a fix-it guy. He especially loves cars. Here is the fix-it project he’s working on now.

So, he’s no poet or song writer, but he knows how to make his little maiden laugh. Boy, do they ever laugh together. Yet somehow he needed to find a way to express his feelings for her without being too corny.

It was 1984, and they just started dating. He was falling in love and afraid to let himself completely give into that feeling, until he heard a song on the radio. It summed up exactly how he felt. He recorded the song on this little thing called a cassette, and set it up in his maiden’s car for her to hear it when she turned the ignition.

I had second thoughts at the start
I said to myself
Hold on to your heart
Now I know the woman that you are
You’re wonderful so far
And it’s more than I hoped for

I don’t care what consequence it brings
I have been a fool for lesser things
I want you so bad
I think you ought to know that
I intend to hold you for the longest time
(Longest Time by Billy Joel)

After they got engaged to be married, he popped another cassette into the player, and these words sang from the dashboard.

You know our love was meant to be
The kind of love that lasts forever
And I want you hear with me
From tonight until the end of time
You should know, everywhere I go
You’re always on my mind,
in my heart,
in my soul. …
You’re the meaning in my life
You’re the inspiration
You bring feeling to my life
You’re the inspiration
Wanna have you near me
I wanna have you hear me saying
No one needs you more than I need you.
(Inspiration by Chicago)

And the prince declared for it to be the first dance song at their wedding.

Several years into their marriage, his maiden ran into some health issues. She became very depressed and felt useless to him. He found a round disc called a CD to record a song that encouraged her and let her know how much he still loved her.

And I can’t believe, uh, that I’m your man
And I get to kiss you baby just because I can.
Whatever comes our way, ah we’ll see it through,
And you know that’s what our love can do.

And in this crazy life, and through these crazy times
It’s you, it’s you, You make me sing
You’re every line, you’re every word, you’re everything.
(Everything by Michael Buble)

And so, just recently, coming upon their twenty-eighth wedding anniversary, the prince grabbed his laptop and placed it on his maiden-wife’s lap. He told her that the song playing reminded him of how he felt when he met her all those years ago in the town pub.

I was gonna keep it real like chill
like only have a drink or two
But it turned into a party
when I started talking to you
Now you’re standing in the neon
looking like a high I wanna be on
Baby it’s your call, no pressure at all

You don’t have to throw back
your pretty pink lemonade shooter
and lean a little closer
You don’t have to keep on smiling
that smile that’s driving me wild
……
You don’t have to keep me fallin’ like this
But it’d sure be cool if you did
(Sure Be Cool If You Did  sung by Blake Shelton)

Did I say 28 years ago? Maybe I meant 128 years ago. 😉

Okay, so it’s a little corny, but at least they can laugh about it. The maiden loves that he finds a way to share his feelings for her, and she wants everyone to know how grateful she is for her prince.

Anyone can be passionate, but it takes real
lovers to be silly.  ~ Rose Franken

  1. Congratulations …. you two. I love fairy tails with happy ending – far many frogs out there … and we girls have to kiss many before the prince pops up. I wish you … all the happiness and friendship for all the years to come.
