by Lori (L. Virelli)
It’s been twenty years
since we first started.
Almost twelve since we stopped.
Those dozen years mended our pain.
Then, just when we think
we’ve put you out of our minds;
we see her.
She looks like you might’ve looked.
Her name is Savannah,
the name your daddy would’ve
picked out for you.
Her hair is my color and texture.
Her face is shaped like your dad’s.
She’s tiny, like I was at that age.
She’s me. She’s him. She’s you.
We conceived you this way,
but only in our minds.
Even though we accepted our fate
and moved on to be happy and fulfilled,
we will always miss you,
and the family we could’ve been.
I like EllaDee – replay; Better to remember and honour than to bury and deny – personal am I a master to bury and deny, but so fare has things faded away by itself. Have read this post 10 times now – but I can find the sadness – is’t me that can’t read between the lines.

I’m so sorry that you had to suffer such loss of dreams and hope. I admire your ability to accept what is and the positive attitude with which you’ve moved on.

This is so kind of you to say, Terri. Back then, we had little support and grieved in solitude, but I’m grateful for the lessons it taught me. One being how to be compassionate to people who grieve, even when I may not understand their grief. From reading your words here, and your blog, you already have that compassion naturally. Thank you.

I know that this wasn’t easy for you – to write and to share! I admire you, for your courage and your honesty, and for this post especially.

Heya Mirjam, I appreciate your kind and supportive words. I’m very open about that part of my life. It’s always been my goal to bring this topic out in the open and let people know it’s nothing to hide. It’s important that people who go through what I did (years ago), get the support they need without judgment. Thank you for reading it, and for the comforting hug. Blessings to you.

So true. As time passes, it’s much easier to take a moment to honor and then move forward. Thank you for reading it and understanding it so well.
