Tears, where are you?
For ten days,
the stress mounts,
higher and higher.
Each incident unrelated to the other.
One-way relationships,
tense discussions,
the weight bearing down
heavier and heavier.
Hunching over,
it’s almost unbearable to carry.
If only I could cry
Scheduling.
Canceling.
Rescheduling.
A tightening chest.
Shaky hands.
Jaws clench.
Whiplash.
Over-heating.
It boils to the top,
and finally … finally …spills over.
Ahh … refreshing,
soul-cleansing,
tears.
Muscles loosen.
Breathing slows.
Shaking ceases.
Tears,
you hold my hand
and wash me clean of poisons.
Even through clouds of your liquid,
my vision clears.
All crooked roads
are made straight.
You resolve my will.
Tears,
don’t take so long
to show up next time,
so I can get on with things.
Thank you, tears.

Lovely verses with the feeling of relief washing over me as the tears did come!

Up down up down.
Forgetting, finding, forgetting, finding.
Tension, release, tension, release.
What is the flow that runs through it all?

This is a very strong poem, I really like it and your formatting the stanzas worked out well. 🙂

Thank you. I don’t really consider myself a poet. I just write what I’m feeling into poems. I had a difficult time formatting the dang thing on WP into the stanzas the way I wanted them. I just can’t seem to get this WP thing down properly. Thanks again for reading and commenting.

Ooh! Yes. Tears release, and by so doing, strengthen, allowing you to get on with what needs to be done. They might creep back when least expected: the smallest thing can spark them off, but with each release comes a small measure of relief. Beautifully put, Lori.

Thank you, Mirjam. Some people see tears as weakness, but I view them as a relief. Especially after I’ve been stressed for a while. I appreciate your comments.

Thanks Layla. It took me forever to format that page and I couldn’t get it to stay in the stanzas the way I wanted it without the blue background. I forgot to put that the poem is by me. 🙂
