An After Holiday, Holiday Poem

Presence

Presents are lovely over the holiday,
especially for kids and their play.
There are toys even adults love.
Electronic devices, or maybe some gloves.

They gather feigning Christmas joy,
grumbling about how it annoys.
Does anyone ever stop to think,
how it all goes by in a blink?

Only what matters are the gifts.
Even adults attitudes don’t shift.
The spirit of giving becomes “all about me.”
Does anyone realize how lucky they may be?

It’s a blessed day for loved ones to share,
and take the time to show they care.
Yet still so many complain,
about the stress and family strain.

Me, I’m just the opposite.
Surrounded by family is my benefit.
Family, friends, neighbors, come one and all
It’s your presence, not presents, for which I call.

This photo was taken long ago when there used to be a lot more presence. (Yes, long ago when women wore big hair.)

Beautiful sentiments and so true! We do obsess and worry and complain when instead, we should be happy that we have one another.

  5. Your family looks happy.
